Are you already planning your holidays in Corfu? Finding the perfect accommodation on the island can be hard if you don't know the area.

My advice: Book your accommodation in the central area. The distances are shorter because Corfu Island is elongated; this way you can visit the North and the South with a base camp at a reasonable distance to everywhere. And also, if you need a taxi or a private transfer prices will be lower.

Central Corfu Island: The Best Beaches Within A 15 Minute Drive

Most of the best sandy beaches are located in Corfu's Central-West and South: Glyfada, Kontogialos, Agios Gordis, Agios Georgios, and Marathias are popular and easy to reach if you're staying in Corfu Town or close.

Smart Accommodation: Corfu Town Hotels and Apartments

Corfu's capital is made up of the Old Town, the New Town, and several rural districts. The Old Town features many apartments and studios, most of which have been renovated and include modern amenities; however, none of the buildings have elevators. These structures are several centuries old, so guests often need to walk up multiple flights of stairs. Despite this, staying in the centre is worthwhile.

The Bretagne Hotel is a recently renovated family-run accomodation, very close to the airport and Garitsa Bay.

The modern area -Sarocco Square, Garitsa, Koulines...- is busier and the buildings are newer. There you will find more options at more affordable rates.

Pros and cons of booking accommodation in Corfu Town:

  • Enjoy the lively atmosphere of many taverns, restaurants, bars, tourist shops, and events,

  • You will be close to the transportation: Central Bus Station and stops, Corfu Airport, Corfu Port,

  • Services such as supermarkets, groceries, pharmacies, and banks, are in this area,

  • It's perfect for strolling around any time of the day or night.

  • There are many luggage lockers,

  • The Old Town is surrounded by the sea, and there are many urban swimming spots,

  • The entire city is a monument worth visiting,

  • You can't miss the many museums and ancient neighbourhoods,

  • It is a pedestrian zone without traffic, but,

  • Parking is difficult, especially during peak season,

  • Due to the age of the houses, they do not have an elevator.

  • Toilet paper cannot be flushed down the toilet -actually, this stands for all the island and most ot Greece.

  • Tap water is not good for drinking or cooking and you need to carry heavy bottle packs up your apartment-the same in other areas, and

  • Accommodation prices may be higher than in other parts of the island.

  • Go swimming in Anemomilos or Faliraki urban beaches,

  • Have an espresso or a Greek Coffee in one of the many local cafeterias,

  • Order a pita gyros on the road,

Where to stay in Corfu Town?

There are a few small hotels in the Old Town of Corfu and hundreds of apartments of all categories. Also, a modern hostel is located in the new area called Emporiko, 10 minutes away from Corfu Port.

In Kanoni Peninsula you will find bigger hotels, with swimming pools overlooking the Airport and Pontikonissi, but take into account that if you stay here the City is 2 km away, a 30-minute walk until Garitsa Bay.
